Hey friends! In a previous post, TTG Part 1: Airplanes, I divulged some information that hopefully got you to at least second guess things you might do during travel. My goal is not to scare you but to simply enlighten you on some things you may not have known or thought about. So picking up where we left off, you have successfully avoided as many gross interactions as possible during your flight. Now what? Well, obviously you’ll need to assess your living arrangements. STOP!!! Before you brew that pot of coffee, I implore you to keep reading.
FOR THE HOTEL
- Bring Sanitation Wipes: Wow, who would have thought that would be my number one rule for hotels too? Sanitation wipes are literally the one thing you need to make sure you have at all times. You’re just inviting germs when you touch anything in your room from the door knobs to the mini fridge. Researchers have found ecoli, fecal matter and more on bathroom sinks, light switches and more. And lets not even get started on that disgusting remote which brings me to #2
- Don’t touch the remote control: Without going into gruesome detail, just know that the hotel remote control is sometimes used for things that have nothing to do with electronics.
Ew. Either wipe it with your sani wipes or take the easier route and grab the plastic bag from the ice bin (if you’re not going to use it), place the remote control inside of it and use it that way. It works just as well I promise. - Request New Sheets & Bring a a pillow case from home(Optional): One time in Vegas, during an NFL cheerleader reunion, I was able to score the penthouse suite in one of the hotels. It was a VERY nice upscale hotel. I took a nap that day in one of the beds only to find out later that the bed hadn’t been changed from the previous resident! How do I know this? Well, because there was blood BETWEEN the sheets and I didn’t have any recent cuts! This is why I am including this very important rule. The comforters in most hotel rooms are only changed every few days. They are usually just wrapped up in new sheets, and sometimes even those duties get skimped on unfortunately. Additionally, the sheets that on your bed were once on a cart with mops and dirty linen. To combat this and avoid fiascos like the one above, I now request two flat white sheets once I get to my room and I place those inside of the sheets that are already on the bed, essentially making a sandwich or a pod.
- Bring Flip Flops: This one is easy, it doesn’t take up much room in your bag and it helps keep germs from being transported with you around the room and into your bed.
- Don’t Use Real Dishes: Plain and simple. If its not in plastic wrap, just don’t use it. Everyone knows that cleaners usually use the dirty rags they just used to clean the bathrooms
ith torinse out and dry the cups in your room; however, did you know that people, *ahem* flight attendants have been known to wash laundry (i.e. hosiery and underwear) in the coffee pots??? Ew. Oh which reminds me… - Check the Iron Before Use: Have you ever started ironing your clothes with a hotel iron and it seems like there’s cheese or something going onto your clothes? Well, sometimes it is. If you don’t have time to get food downstairs at the restuarant, you can always enjoy a nice grilled cheese sandwich in your room, and all you need is a good iron. Yeah, another flight attendant “trick”. Check your iron. End of story. You can’t say I didn’t warn you.
- Throw Away the Tissue: Aren’t those fancy little designs that the maids do with your tissue and toilet paper so cute??? Yes they are, and after you’re done admiring them throw them away and get a fresh one. They make those fancy folds after they have cleaned and touched everything else in the bathroom. By using those first wipes, I am putting unnecessary germs on my face and body. Just make a mental thank you to those kind people and toss the art work out.
- Avoid Bed Bugs: The bedbug invasion is a never ending potential problem for anyone that travels. It not only causes headaches during travel, it can cause a mess of things and become very costly if you bring them home – not to mention the headaches. Many flight attendants avoid this mess by using a few techniques which I actually will cover in a video on the LSS Youtube channel at a later date. The main thing is to NEVER, just waltz into your room and throw your stuff down; You’ll have to visit my youtube channel to get the rest – so that YOU can rest.
Alright guys, I’m done. I’m sure you can feel me getting anxious just writing about this lol! But in all seriousness, it’s not THAT deep, I just want you to be informed so you can make your own decisions on precautions to take. If I’ve already scarred you for dear life, I apologize but at the end of the day if you just don’t look, at anything, then you will be fine.
